Objectives: 

  • To address the problem of hand washing in the health care facilities and EPI clinics by providing and installing contact less / feet operated hand washing stations with O&M plan.
  • To address shortage of liquid soaps and mask by providing liquid soap making and mask making trainings and start up support to interested and needy for the production which will promote local production of soaps and masks in a near future.
  • To support Local Governments to tackle with unexpected arising situation due to COVID-19.

 

Key Activities:

  • Hand washing stations are established at Health Care Facilities and EPI clinics with visual reminder.
  • Liquid Soap making training is provided to selected participants in two events.
  • Mask making training is provided to selected participants in two events.
  • Start up support is provided to two individuals (one from each RM) for liquid soap production.
  • Start up support is provided to two individuals (one from each RM) for mask production.
  • Hand Washing Materials (Soap, Liquid Soap or Sanitizer) is provided to selected disadvantageous and vulnerable households and families.
  • MoUs signed with Palikas, Ward Offices and HFOMC for the regular and sustained usage and maintenance of the HWS.
  • Hygiene promotions at the HCF and EPI Clinic periodically.

 

Key Achievements:

  • Installation of 50 hand washing stations in different Health care facilities, EPI clinics and other institutions selected in coordination with concerned Rural Municipality; 25 in Bhumlu Rural Municipality and 25 in Chaurideurali Rural Municipality.
  • Liquid Soap Making Training was conducted in Chaurideurali Rural Municipality on 16th and 17th August, 2020 dividing participants into two groups and making them participate in selected day. There were 32 participants in total (10 Male and 22 Female).
  • Liquid Soap Making Training was conducted in Bhumlu Rural Municipality on 5th, 6th and 20th September, 2020 dividing participants into three groups and making them participate in selected day. There were 46 participants (20 Male and 26 Female).
  • Mask Making Training was conducted to participants from Bhumlu Rural Municipality on 23rd to 25th September, 2020 for 3 days at Hotel Jugal, Dhulikhel. There were 13 participants (8 Male and 5 Female).
  • Mask Making Training was conducted in Chaurideurali Rural Municipality on 7th to 9th October, 2020. There were 13 participants (4 Male and 9 Female).
  • 1 event of mask making training conducted at Hotel Jugal, Dhulikhel from 3rd to 5th January, 2021 for those who missed the mask making training previously organized because of covid-19 related problems and they were also recommended by Rural Municipalities. There were 4 female participants.
  • Developed Operation and Maintenance Plan (O & M plan) of each hand washing stations mentioning clear roles and responsibilities of concerned institution and stakeholers for making the institution feel ownership of the hand washing stations, to ensure sustainability of the hand washing stations, after Meetings conducted with Management Committees or responsible personnel of each institutions where hand washing stations are installed.
  • Organized speech contest at Shree Jagriti Secondary School on the occasion of Global Hand Washing Day, 2020 (15th October, 2020) on the topic ‘importance of hand washing’ with a prime objective to advocate and trigger stakeholders, school authorities and students for hand washing and hand washing related infrastructures. There were 25 attendees.
  • Start up materials support provided for the local production of mask and liquid soap production to 5 selected individuals from Chaurideurali RM, of which 3 for liquid soap production and 2 for mask production. Start up support materials were handed over on 12th November, 2020. They have started production of mask and liquid soap.
  • Start up materials support provided for the local production of mask and liquid soap production to 2 selected individuals from Bhumlu RM, of which 1 for liquid soap production and 1 for mask production. Start up support materials were handed over on 23rd and 24th November, 2020.
  • In Chaurideurali RM, they have produced 120 liters of liquid soap and sold 100 liters of them and also have produced around 3000 pieces of mask, as of 30th March, 2021.
  • In Bhumlu RM, they have produced 200 liters of liquid soap and sold 100 liters of them and also have produced around 100 pieces of mask, as of 30th March, 2021.
  • Hired one plumber each for both Chaurideurali and Bhumlu RM, for the instant repair and maintenance of hand washing stations and for the basic orientation to the care taker of each hand washing stations for basic repair and maintenance of hand washing station to ensure long term functionality of the hand washing stations. It was from the month of December, 2020 to March, 2021 (4 months).
  • Water Quality Test of 50 hand washing stations has been done and was oriented to care takers about it. Contamination was detected in one hand washing station of ward office, Ward No. 2, Bhumlu Rural Municipality. They were constantly requested and monitored for regular chlorination.
  • Waste Water Management of all 50 hand washing stations has been done by hired plumbers and care taker of hand washing stations.
  • Hygiene materials (2 pieces of Lifebuoy sanitizers, 500 ml each) have been handed over to 4914 families via. School students of Chaurideurali and Bhumlu Rural Municipalities, in coordination with respective Rural Municipality. It was handed over to 2213 Male students and 2701 Female students.
