Recovery and reconstruction of community water supply schemes and household latrines through sustainable approach in Kavre District Province No.3

Objectives:

  • Targeted communities receive restored or improved water supply schemes.

  • Targeted communities receive restored or improved household’s toilets with Hygiene Promotion.

  • Communities receive and practice sustainable WASH practice through DRR Approach.

  • CSO staff gain enhanced capacities to effective manage the program.

 

Key Activities:

  • Major community water supply construction and rehabilitation.

  • HH toilet construction and rehabilitation.

  • Public Health Promotion (Including Hand washing in key periods, use of toilet and ODF declaration etc.)

  • Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) orientation (MHM orientation for Adolescent girls, use of sanitary napkins/ cloths and proper disposals).

  • Water safety Plan orientation at households level (Monitoring of water supply schemes, cleanliness of tap stands, Water safety from source to tap and drinking water collection, storage and treatment (PoU) at households level).

  • Environment sanitation promotion in targeted communities focusing on ODF and solid waste management.

  • VMW / Plumber life skill Training for each community of water supply schemes.

  • Capacity Development of CSO Staff on report writing, financial/logistic management & community mobilization.

 

Project period: 7 months (15th January, 2018 to 15th August, 2018)

Project Location: Mahabharat Rural Municipality, Roshi Rural Municipalitiy, Dhulikhel Municipality and Banepa Municipality of Kavrepalanchok district

Major Achievements:

  • 8 Targeted communities received improved and sustainable water supply facility from which beneficiaries are 4877 (2359 Male and 2518 Female) of 417 Households.
  • 3174 People (336 HHs) from the targeted communities gained access to improved sanitation facility and Hygiene Promotion.
  • 20 people of selected water user communities of Kavre district trained on life skill based plumbing training.
  • 157 WSUC members trained on pre/post construction training for sustainability of recovered/ reconstructed water supply schemes.
  • Completed 8 Community Water Supply Schemes incorporated Water Safety Plan with special focus on water quality and DRR training for sustainability of water supply schemes.
  • 6 schools conducted child centered WASH risk Assessment & Prepared Map including possible risks and identified mitigation measures by school children/ Child group.
  • 9 CSO staffs receive capacity building to enhance their program management capacity
