Project Summary:
Access to Safe drinking water and Sanitation is known to have significant beneficial impact on the health of the children in the school and community both. Safe drinking water and adequate sanitation are the basic right of the every citizen.
Chaurideurali is one of the rural municipalities of Kavre district, which is located 80 km east of Kathmandu in a rural setting have low access to the healthy WASH environment due to the lack of the toilets, drinking water and good hygiene. The Project ‘Sanitation Trailblazer: Resilient Children in Nepal (STRCN) was recently implemented in schools of Chaurideurali with the prime motive to enhance DRR and WASH behaviours in schools and to support rural municipality to incorporate in planning process. However, even after the satisfactory completion of the project, schools are still lacking the capacity for sustainable management of the WASH facilities. This is seen mainly due to lack of physical WASH infrastructures in schools and due to lack of proper adaptation of WASH in school in planning and policies of Rural Municipality.
With above connection, (WAN) is planning to work further in 38 schools of Chaurideurali Rural Municipality to encourage children and schools by developing the healthy learning environment with development of healthy WASH environment including construction of Inclusive WASH facilities in schools by increasing the capacity for sustaining the WASH management facilities in schools. Also, The project has planned to train Students, school authorities and management committees to promote and enhance capacity in WASH resilience, Sustainable WASH and sensitizing the rural municipality for adopting WASH in school procedure including WASH resilience characteristics under the project ‘Foundation for the Future (FFTF)’ through partner organization ‘Civic forum for sustainable development (Civic Forum)’ with the planned project period of July, 2022 till June, 2024. The initial coordination and preparatory works will be done along with delivery of few planned activities based on Results Framework.
The Project will be implemented in 38 schools of Chaurideurali Rural Municipality in Kavrepalanchok District in Bagamati Province. The project direct beneficiaries will be 3400 Students and 290 Teachers in 38 schools along with 80 Rural Municipality Staff members. Likewise, the indirect beneficiaries will be 9,000 people from 2,000 households.
